First Grade Art

First Grade Students will have art once a week for 40 minutes. In the art room, students will have an opportunity to look at the work of a variety of artists and try out different materials during the course of the school year as they work on both 2D and 3D art projects. When possible, the art curriculum is tied into the classroom curriculum.

Here are the key concepts we will be focusing on this year:

  straight, curved, zigzag, connecting lines, line weight

  vertical, horizontal, diagonal, line weights

  geometric and organic

  background, middle-ground, foreground

  self-portrait, portrait, still-life, landscape
• Pattern
  repetition of line, shape, color
